Fight mesothelioma cancers with Immunotherapy method

Cancer is new fear for most people now days. With not healthy live style, junk food, smoking, alcohol and stress people can easily get cancer today. Place where we stay for sleep or working is also can cause mesothelioma cancer. Mesothelioma cancer is rare cancer because of asbestos exposure in long period of time.

Till the year 1957, no relation between the immune system of a person and the attacks of cancer, was established. Gradually, as the studies continued, the scientists found interesting evidence between the two. The immune system was found to act as a defensive line against the viruses and the bacteria, in the body.

It was also found that people who were weak, and who did not have a developed immune system, were open to greater risk of developing cancer, than those persons where immunity existed.

If any sign or evidence that is seen the immune cells, it shows they become active, circle the abnormal cancerous cells and kill them off, thus providing a better prognosis for the sufferer.

Immune surveillance is a medical term that describes the attack of the immune cells. These cells keep moving in the body, searching for the abnormal cells. As soon as the immune cells, come in contact with these abnormal cells, which are also termed as foreign bodies, they surround them and acts as killers.

There are times, when the immune system is not able to recognize these pre-cancerous cells, and is therefore, unable to kill them. These cancerous cells, therefore become active, follow the process of division, leading to the formation of tumors. These cells actually escape the immunization system, and the growth of the cancerous cell continues.

This whole process of seeking, killing and escaping is a game of ’hide and seek’. In this process of hide and seek, there are many cancers, in which, protein chemicals are excreted. These chemicals inhibit the activity of the immune cells. Besides; there are some tumors that are localized near the eyes, or, are, present, in the brain system, these are the tracts which are not regularly patrolled, by the immune cells Here, the immune system is week and cancer attacks are easier.

The main achievement of the therapy, known as immunotherapy, is to activate the immune cells, provide them strength and power, to attack the abnormal cells vigorously, to destroy the cancer cells and prevent the growth of the new cancer cell formation.

The concept of immunotherapy is based on the body’s natural defensive system, providing protection to a variety of diseases. Immunotherapy is now, a new powerful weapon, in the world of anti cancer treatments. This study is boosting up the immune theory, with promising results.

Asbestos bring more death as new report says

Mesothelioma is one of cancer that most people don't aware about it today. People now focus on swine flue as it is spread very fast to all around the world. People looking all information related to swine flu such as swine flu symptoms or what should we do when swine flu pandemic happen. But do you know new fact about Mesothelioma cancer that cause by asbestos exposure ?

Recent reports have revealed that the death toll from the asbestos related cancer mesothelioma is continuing to increase, and one New York attorney that deals with personal injury said that the figures highlight how desperate the need is for ongoing commitment to control exposure to hazardous materials at work.

The figures come from the results of a federal study, which were recently released. Joseph Belluck, who is a partner at a New York law firm that deals with asbestos cases, stated: “The tragic legacy of asbestos will be with us for many years to come. Even today, people in certain occupations continue to be exposed.”

The results of the study were released by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and showed that between 1999 and 2005 there were over eighteen thousand deaths in the United States that resulted from malignant mesothelioma, which is linked directly to exposure to asbestos dust and fibers over long periods and at high levels.

Twenty six states across the country were identified as having mesothelioma death figures that were higher than the national average, which is 13.8 deaths per million people per year.

Asbestos British activist cycle 1200 miles to raise awareness mesothelioma

Brit Jason Addy, an activist with the group Save Spodden Valley, is preparing for a 1200 bike ride from Glasgow to Southampton to publicize the terrible effects of asbestos exposure in victims of mesothelioma. His epic bike ride is scheduled to begin on June 20, 2009.
Over five years, except Spodden Valley has fought plans to build houses and a nursery on the site contaminated with asbestos from a former factory. In addition to raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos, Addy intends to raise funds for research for a cure for cancer related to asbestos. Another objective of the trip is to support a campaign to establish a national center for asbestos-related diseases in the United Kingdom. Asbestos-related disease remains the # 1 cause of work-related deaths in Britain in 2009.

Increased risk for malignant mesothelioma after radiation treatment for HL

Although malignant mesothelioma is relatively rare, research indicates that may be associated with radiation exposure.
Results of several recent epidemiological studies showed that radiation for lymphoma may be associated with an increased risk of malignant mesothelioma. However, these studies included only a small number of patients and the results must be confirmed in larger studies.
For this study, researchers examined the risk of malignant mesothelioma in 2567 patients who had attained at least five years of survival after treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma.
The patients included in the study had been treated with radiotherapy alone, chemotherapy alone or a combination of both.
The median follow-up was 18.1 years. At this time, 13 patients with malignant mesothelioma had at least five years after being treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma.
In five years the survivors of Hodgkin lymphoma were nearly 26 times more likely than the general population of developing malignant mesothelioma, according to the results. Those treated with radiotherapy alone about 30 times more likely to develop malignant mesothelioma.
There were no cases of the disease among 232 patients treated with chemotherapy alone, but patients treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy were almost 44 times more likely to develop malignant mesothelioma.

Asbestos Violations in Oregon City result in fines

The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) fined the city of Central Point $ 815 for violating various regulations relating to asbestos.
Although only a small amount of asbestos found in the remaining debris from the demolition of 100 years of the house in February 2009, the city was given three citations to a number of issues ranging from failure to inform employees the possible presence of asbestos does not provide adequate training and clothing to the workers handling asbestos-contaminated materials.
"Basically, they are supposed to have told employees there was potentially asbestos or that the material might contain asbestos. They were then supposed to have proof that before they started working," said Oregon OSHA spokesman Melanie Mesaros .
Exposure to asbestos is a serious concern because of health conditions can develop as a result of inhalation or ingestion of toxic asbestos fibers. Mesothelioma, a rare, aggressive cancer almost exclusively caused by exposure to asbestos.
According to the Public Works Director Bob Pierce, the rules for the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and OSHA reviewed before the demolition of city officials who said that the site was exempt from most regulations in accordance to DEQ standards.
Employees involved in the demolition were instructed to spray water on the site if dust were present. The site was also examined by a city building official shall determine the structure was not likely to contain materials contaminated with asbestos.
"The result was we made some mistakes, and fesses up to and fined $ 815," said Pierce. "We take our employees' safety very seriously. We went there thinking he had done everything the way it should have been done."
Inspectors visited the site and found a minimal debris remaining in the test, since most had already been buried.
"They tested for three types of things - roofing, tile and linoleum - and a sample with less than 1 percent (asbestos). Therefore, do not expose anyone to asbestos from what we can determine here but there are other measures that should have been, "added Pierce.
Pierce noted that the city now use contractors for demolition projects.

Chrysotile asbestos and mesothelioma reports finally released by the Ministry of Health in Canada

After accusations that the government in Ottawa has tried to bury the scientific reports that confirm the relationship between exposure to chrysotile asbestos and asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, related to the history view, the Canadian government has finally published two reports that were carried out over a year ago.
A six-member expert group commissioned by the Ministry of Health of Canada met in November 2007 to discuss the relationship between exposure to chrysotile asbestos and asbestos-related diseases such as pleural mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma and cancer lung. The chairman of the group presented two reports to the Ministry of Health Canada in March 2008, however, reports were not released until over a year later and four months after a request for access to information submitted to the agency.
Canada is the fifth largest exporter of chrysotile asbestos in 2006 was international and the only Western nation to oppose listing chrysotile as a hazardous chemical under the UN's Rotterdam Convention.
The chairman of the group of experts who authored the report criticizes the Canadian government to delay release of the reports, expressing concern that the government was covering up political and economic interests as scientific decisions.

Files of asbestos victims in the United Kingdom are destroying

It has been argued recently that thousands of files of victims of asbestos in the United Kingdom have been destroyed, and this could lead to many people suffering from asbestos-related cancers and diseases like not being able to obtain the compensation they are entitled, due to the destruction of evidence and documentation required.
The report states that the Health and Safety Executive, the body that licenses asbestos work, continues to destroy the files. An official of the HSE said: "Paper documents are retained for nine years and seven years for electronics."
A teacher talks about how she was diagnosed with mesothelioma last year and needed to determine if it is work related. She said she was outraged to discover that the files had been destroyed. The HSE has stated that "our mission is to prevent death, injuries and health problems in the United Kingdom from work places."
The teacher who was diagnosed with cancer said: "I can not determine whether licensed or unlicensed asbestos contractors involved. All this means that the taxpayer will have to foot the bill for compensation in lieu of insurance companies. This is very stressful and should be absolutely terrible for the families trying to cope with these people and care for the disease much as me. "

Why our children should know the danger of asbestos exposure

Do you speak about health issues to your children and students ? In my career there are some health issues that I have taught, since they are so important to pass along. One is the danger of exposure to asbestos exposure. Asbestos is the small metal filaments that emerge from large metal objects, as in a machine shop or a garage mechanic. Is a very common asbestos is emitted through change of brake drums and pads for automobiles.
Asbestos causes a deadly form of lung cancer called mesothelioma. This disease has killed many of our grandparents of children who worked in the automotive industry, as well as many other industries that produce asbestos in the workplace. It affects their families and for their grandmothers and their parents may have died for it. Still, with all this around to asbestos, our children are educated. Most children know smoking causes cancer, but most do not know what causes mesothelioma. As teachers (whether professional or just the parents, uncles, famliy, etc) we must educate our children and students about the danger of asbestos and cancer called mesothelioma.
I think a lot of time we as providers of language arts and mathematics, but our children are with us 6-10 hours (depending on whether after school to teach classes or sports). I've heard from parents to their children: "Your teacher said you about (slavery, drugs, government, filling in the blank)?" So I know they expect us to teach more than language and mathematics. This is a social need to teach our children about mesothelioma. [Source]

Mesothelioma can be Identified by Screening

Using computed tomography scans to screen former workers of asbestos can be detected early and the last stage of lung cancer and mesothelioma late stage, according to a survey conducted in May Journal of Thoracic Oncology. However, it remains unclear whether the detection of these cancers may improve patient prognosis.
Exposure to asbestos fibers is a known risk factor for lung cancer and cause of mesothelioma. Although asbestos is still not completely banned in the U.S., was eliminated from American industry to a great extent since the 1970s. However, due to asbestos-related diseases can take 20 to 40 years out after people have been exposed, former asbestos workers and those exposed to products containing this substance are still diagnosed with cancer caused cancers asbestos.
As researchers search for better treatments and a cure for these diseases, is also focusing on new diagnostic methods that can identify cancer earlier. Early diagnosis is especially important with mesothelioma, because many patients survive one year after starting to show signs and symptoms are often difficult to distinguish from those of other lung diseases.
A possible detection method uses low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) to evaluate the lungs and the lining (pleura). LDCT can locate the plaques in the lungs, which are a sign of exposure to asbestos and have been linked to increased risk of cancer.
Currently, there are no recommendations on the use of LDCT, or any other method of selecting people who have been exposed to asbestos, and the detection is not performed routinely. "Currently there are no methods for early detection of mesothelioma available," says lead author Heidi Roberts, MD, Professor of Radiology, University of Toronto. "This is why we are doing research."
To determine the effectiveness of LDCT as a tool for asbestos-related lung cancer, Dr. Roberts and his colleagues recruited 516 people (most of them men) who had been exposed to asbestos at least 20 years before, or who had known plates. Participants were LDCT scans of the chest. Patients who had abnormal scans were follow-up tests. Those with normal test results were invited to take one LDCT scan.
Of the 516 participants, 357 had evidence of plaques. Based on the results of initial analysis and annual examinations, six patients were diagnosed with lung cancer and four were diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Although LDCT can detect advanced mesothelioma, as the first and last stage of lung cancers, was not able to diagnose early mesothelioma. The study's authors say it is necessary to follow screening patients to help them get a better idea than it seems at the beginning of mesothelioma. Also, they add biomarkers (substances in the blood that indicate the presence of cancer) for the selection process can provide greater sensitivity to help diagnose the very high risk of mesothelioma.
Even when the techniques were refined, the detection is just one step in a three-level in the fight against these cancers, according to Dr. Roberts. "The second step is the parallel development of biomarkers, and the third step is the parallel development of treatment strategies," he says. "These have to be developed hand in hand in order to make this a useful and meaningful."

Pericardial Mesothelioma Symptoms

Pericardial mesothelioma is the least common form of mesothelioma. Only about 5% of cases of pericardial mesothelioma. This type of disease affects the pericardium, which is a membranous lining around the heart, as the provision of support and protection for the organ. When asbestos fibers are deposited in the membrane surrounding the heart, can not be eliminated by the body. These fibers then begin to cause changes in the pericardial membrane. While the exact nature of these changes is not fully understood, it is known that these changes eventually lead to uncontrolled growth of cells in the pericardial layers, causing the disease to form malignant tumors.
The rarity of pericardial mesothelioma has been difficult for experts to identify the specific set of common symptoms. The following symptoms often indicate a state of heart, but further studies are required to confirm the diagnosis of pericardial mesothelioma : Pain in the chest,Irregular heartbeat and Heart palpitations

About Peritoneal mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma is a relatively rare form of cancer, which is slightly less than 30% of diagnosed mesothelioma cases. This type of cell the mesothelioma affects the abdominal lining, also known as the peritoneum, which supports and protects organs in the abdomen. It is widely believed that asbestos fibers, which are inhaled are transported to the peritoneum via the lymphatic system.
Once in the peritoneum, peritoneal asbestos fibers cause changes in cells that cause the divide without restraint, causing peritoneal layer to thicken. Tumor cell growth puts pressure on internal organs, and this increases the pressure of fluid, which is based in the area, as a result of tumor growth.

Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is associated with asbestos, cancer that affects the lining of the chest cavity. One of the main problems in the diagnosis of malignant pleural mesothelioma, the disease has a very slow start. Moreover, many people with malignant pleural mesothelioma not immediately seek treatment because of the general nature of their symptoms. Early symptoms of malignant pleural mesothelioma include persistent pain in the chest, shortness of breath, weight loss and fever. Patients diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma have cancer in the growth of surrounding tissue and the lining of the lungs. Men aged 50 and 70 are more commonly diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma.
Pleural mesothelioma is a deadly and devastating disease is not known cure. Initial symptoms of pleural mesothelioma are often unclear: Shortness of breath, Pain in the chest and Cough

How do insurance companies look for Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is malignant cancer that can be found in the mesothelium (or protective) from the lungs, heart and abdomen. This is caused by asbestos exposure and is at the heart of one thousand courts across America.
Many people who are diagnosed with the disease are those who worked in factories, plants of the automotive industry, construction and employment, which produced or manufactured products which were made of asbestos fibers.
Thousands of people are winning billions of dollars in mesothelioma cases, but insurance companies frown on the court due to lack of evidence that exposure to asbestos is the cause of his illness. Insurance companies are feeling the pain of those courts, because they lose billions of dollars.
Although it is proved that the disease is caused by exposure to asbestos, it is not known for sure when and where asbestos exposure actually occurred, probably because it occurred in the last thirty to forty years.
Mesothelioma is not a disease that occurs at night. Occurs as a result of prolonged exposure to asbestos. Many people who are diagnosed with the disease he worked for the company decades earlier, when asbestos exposure was very high. It is clear that the disease was probably caused by that exposure, but the insurance companies say that there is no real evidence to prove exposure. As a result, insurance companies really frown on disease cases.
If you are diagnosed with the disease and a hard time getting insurance companies to pay for medical expenses, you should contact an attorney disease. You have the right to paid medical costs regardless of what your insurance company says the evidence that has or does not.
There are disease advocates, who are trained and who have much experience in dealing with insurance companies and illness and can answer any questions or concerns you have about the disease and how your insurance company is or is not handling the fact that medical costs are related to his illness.
So, if you feel it is not fair treatment, or receive benefits from an insurance company in respect of sickness, you can file a law and may be entitled to many benefits as a result of their disease lawsuit. There is no need to suffer more than you already have. A disease lawyer will be able to help. [Source]

Mesothelioma is a rare and deadly form of cancer, which causes malignant cells that occur in the protective bag that covers most of the body's internal organs, mainly the lungs. Exposure to asbestos is the cause of mesothelioma, there is no known link between smoking and mesothelioma. Those at highest risk of developing mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibers in other ways.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, or a family member has died as a result of mesothelioma, then you are entitled to compensation through a mesothelioma lawsuit against the companies that made these asbestos products.

However, your mesothelioma lawyer can help identify products that were presented. If necessary, your lawyer to hire a private investigator to find out where the exposure took place.

Mesothelioma Lawsuits in Louisiana

In towns and cities in United States, asbestos claims are increasingly prolific as individuals exposed to asbestos twenty and thirty years ago, today developing and dying from mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a rare and extremely lethal form of cancer in which malignant cells are found in the protective sac that covers most of the internal organs of the body. Mesothelioma, which is caused by exposure to asbestos, you have more than three decades to strike its victims. Those at highest risk of developing mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibers in other ways.

Today, a growing number of mesothelioma cases have been successful in recovering hundreds of millions in compensation for the tens of thousands of victims of mesothelioma. Compensation is paid by the companies that made these asbestos products, and enables victims to cover their medical expenses and be compensated for their pain and suffering.

The current focus of concern for victims of asbestos is New Orleans. In the post-Katrina New Orleans and the entire state of Louisiana is experiencing a boom in construction - a company famous for its use of asbestos products. Post-storm rehabilitations of homes, large-scale demolitions, and even just the ubiquitous roofing jobs are currently thousands of asbestos exposure. Despite these dangers, however, Congress is considering a bill that would prevent someone with cancer as a result of Katrina, after exposure to asbestos to get financial aid.

The introduction of the bill is being driven by demands for reform of liability between the asbestos-related industries. Financially crippled by increasingly high rewards to asbestos victims, these industries want a cap on their liability. They cite a recent demand for asbestos in Louisiana, where the owners who purchased asbestos-contaminated fill dirt sued the contractor who sold them the land and the oil company, where the soil has been removed. Although none of the plaintiffs have yet become sick, a jury awarded them compensatory and punitive damages, because of their fear of harm (rather than actual harm). The sentence was upheld by a Louisiana appeals court, which ruled that any exposure to a harmful substance, no matter how small, would justify a lawsuit.

The new bill set for debate by Congress in February, put an end to the asbestos claims. The bill seeks to protect companies with asbestos liability from further lawsuits by paying into a government administered trust fund, that the screen claimants through established medical criteria. The victims were awarded compensation based on the severity of their disease. The bill specifically states that the fund does not cover victims of environmental exposure and the neighborhood, with the prime example is after the victims of Katrina in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana. The bill is widely opposed by the medical community, as well as trade unions and civil rights activists, particularly in the state of Louisiana.

Asbestos history

Asbestos is a common name that describes a group of fibrous metamorphic minerals composed of hydrated magnesium silicate-groups. Its unique chemical composition, is an excellent insulator, flame retardant, high tensile strength and resistance to chemicals. It simply was the material of choice, with any purpose.

There are several major groups of asbestos.
Chrysotile, also known as white asbestos is obtained from serpentine rocks. Its chemical composition is MG3 (Si2O5) (OH) 4. This is less of friable asbestos, which is the least dangerous of all.
Amosite, also known as brown asbestos and grunerite is an amphibole from South Africa and its chemical composition is Fe7Si8O22 (OH). Its hard, spiky fibers have good tensile strength and heat resistance.
Riebeckite, also known as blue asbestos Crocidolite, is an amphibole from Africa and Australia. Its chemical composition is Na2Fe2 3 Fe3 2 Si8O22 (OH) 2. The needle-like fibers are the strongest of all asbestos fibers and have a high resistance to acids. This is the most dangerous type of asbestos because of its fibrous structure and composition.
