Why our children should know the danger of asbestos exposure

Do you speak about health issues to your children and students ? In my career there are some health issues that I have taught, since they are so important to pass along. One is the danger of exposure to asbestos exposure. Asbestos is the small metal filaments that emerge from large metal objects, as in a machine shop or a garage mechanic. Is a very common asbestos is emitted through change of brake drums and pads for automobiles.
Asbestos causes a deadly form of lung cancer called mesothelioma. This disease has killed many of our grandparents of children who worked in the automotive industry, as well as many other industries that produce asbestos in the workplace. It affects their families and for their grandmothers and their parents may have died for it. Still, with all this around to asbestos, our children are educated. Most children know smoking causes cancer, but most do not know what causes mesothelioma. As teachers (whether professional or just the parents, uncles, famliy, etc) we must educate our children and students about the danger of asbestos and cancer called mesothelioma.
I think a lot of time we as providers of language arts and mathematics, but our children are with us 6-10 hours (depending on whether after school to teach classes or sports). I've heard from parents to their children: "Your teacher said you about (slavery, drugs, government, filling in the blank)?" So I know they expect us to teach more than language and mathematics. This is a social need to teach our children about mesothelioma. [Source]
