Mesothelioma treatments using interferon and lovastatin

According to Nashville-based Neoplan Innovation, the first mesothelioma patient to be treated with the new treatment protocol has responded favorably. The treatment protocol, which has been tested on a number of other types of aggressive cancer, involves a combination of interferon and low dose of lovastatin.
The first patient was not tested by standard mesothelioma treatments. And though his response to the new treatment has been favorable, the response of an individual patient is not enough information to draw conclusions about the treatment of clinical effectiveness.
The two drugs that are used in the treatment protocol are the medicines that are used in a new "off-label" manner. Lovastatin is generally used to lower cholesterol. More than ten years, lovastatin was shown to target mesothelioma cells in laboratory cultures. [Source]
