About Peritoneal mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma is a relatively rare form of cancer, which is slightly less than 30% of diagnosed mesothelioma cases. This type of cell the mesothelioma affects the abdominal lining, also known as the peritoneum, which supports and protects organs in the abdomen. It is widely believed that asbestos fibers, which are inhaled are transported to the peritoneum via the lymphatic system.
Once in the peritoneum, peritoneal asbestos fibers cause changes in cells that cause the divide without restraint, causing peritoneal layer to thicken. Tumor cell growth puts pressure on internal organs, and this increases the pressure of fluid, which is based in the area, as a result of tumor growth.
